The Holi Hai Festival

One festival I find extraordinary is the Holi Hai festival, otherwise known as the Festival of Colors. The origin of this festival came from India and is celebrated all over the world today. Juggie Naran from the Sunday Tribune in South Africa said,

"Holi, though it originated in the northern part of India, has assumed a national flavor over the ages. Despite it being a Hindu festival, it is now regarded as a secular event for the entire nation. "Cities, villages and towns all come together to join the frenzy of the March madness."

The main purpose of this festival is to celebrate the triumph over good and bad. Not only that but it is also meant to bring joy and color to your life. The Holi Hai festival is usually at the end of February or early March, and will only last two days. During the first day you will attend a bonfire. The bonfire is held around ten o'clock at night and last till about midnight. While you're at the bonfire you will sing spiritual songs and hold hands with people that you've probably never met before. It probably seems weird to you, but you will love it!

Ok so the first day ends and the final day is here. This is the day that you will throw powder on everyone. Some buy the powder from markets, and others just make their own. You can do it buy making it out of talu or palash, which are flowers. So after you make the powder you gather in the streets and just start throwing it on other people. They do this for a particular reason and that reason is to celebrate joy in their lives.

One man has experienced this festival and his name is Adam. On his blog he wrote:

"It was amazing to see. There was a very friendly atmosphere. Every time I stopped to film something the camera was pelted with clouds of colour and water bombs. I ended up TOTALLY covered in paint! I've just had a bath and was scrubbing for TWO HOURS and it's still not come off. I now have green and red hair."

So, is there a festival that you would like to experience?
