Hanukkah

One festival I find fascinating is Hanukkah, because it sounds very exciting and it's another culture I would like to learn about. Hanukkah lasts for eight days and nights, it also begins on the twenty-fifth day of the Jewish calendar, and at sundown on December twenty-first.

The purpose of celebrating Hanukkah is mainly because it celebrates the triumphs; both religious and military, of ancient Jewish heroes. It is how Jewish people celebrate instead of celebrating Christmas, and I would like to see how another culture is and what they do. They also play games and sing songs together while celebrating Hanukkah.  Even President Bush values the festivities.

As reported on the Baltimore Jewish blog, Bush said,

"The Hanukkah reception is always one of the most special events of the season. Laura and I are pleased to be with so many friends. And we are honored to gather with leaders of the Jewish community to celebrate our final Hanukkah here in the White House."

I agree, I think this holiday is special for the Jewish culture. I think something that would be well appreciated is to have a Jewish festival here in our school. It would teach us about a new culture and it would be a great time for you and everyone else to learn more about Hanukkah. How would you feel about writing a letter to the principal about a festival here at school?
